Centrelink offers Mallee District Aboriginal Services' housing tenants and prospective tenants in Mildura, Swan Hill and Kerang a free-of-charge rent payment service. This can be arranged at your local Centrelink office.
In addition, Mallee District Aboriginal Services provides range of programs aimed at supporting and assisting Koori people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness.
Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP)
The SAAP worker provides a range of specialist services for clients based primarily in the Loddon Mallee Region. The SAAP worker is based at the Mallee District Aboriginal Services Family Services Unit. The SAAP worker works collaboratively with the other programs within the organisation and other specialist programs including the Department of Human Services and the Office of Housing which provides services across the area. The SAAP worker will assist families and individuals that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
Aboriginal Tenants at Risk of Eviction (ATARE)
The ATARE worker provides a range of specialist services for clients based primarily in the Loddon Mallee Region and the Gunawarra and Bullock Shire. The ATARE worker is based at the Family Services Unit. The ATARE worker works collaboratively with other Mallee District Aboriginal Services programs and other specialist programs including the Department of Human Services, which provides services across the area. The ATARE support worker will be required to intervene where a public housing tenancy is breaking down to resolve factors placing the tenancy at risk. It will also involve the provision of intensive individual support to tenancies identified at risk and referrals from Office of Housing.
