Smoking remains one of the major risk-factors to Koori health.
Smoking causes many of the health problems in our community and The Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show about 45 percent of Aboriginal Australians are daily smokers – more than twice the rate in the general community.
We deliver programs to support you to quit or reduce your smoking habits. As well as counseling and medical support, we are working hard to change attitudes in our community.
One of our main aims is to develop networks to build community support for health promotion activities that focus on the risks related to smoking. Through these programs we aim to increase the rates of people quitting and reduce the rates of people taking up smoking.
Helping young people choose not to smoke and supporting people to give up smoking are key steps to improving health outcomes for Koori people. Speak to our staff in the Health Clinic to find out more.
